Sailing, Swimming, Storytelling, and Water-Balling, Remembering Henry Less

A few days before his passing, I had the privilege of introducing Henry to Steve Mann. We spent the afternoon together at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club water-balling, laughing, and sharing time on Henry’s yacht.

Henry was full of energy that day, sharing incredible stories of crossing the Atlantic by sail and even swimming in the middle of the ocean, far from any land. His spirit of adventure was boundless. Beyond the sea, he was also a visionary filmmaker whose creative accomplishments touched countless lives and left a lasting mark on the world of storytelling.

Not long after he was making plans for more water-balling, I received the heartbreaking news that Henry died the Sunday after we met, while swimming in Lake Ontario off a sailboat in Ajax.

At SwimOP, we all swim in these same waters of Lake Ontario. Knowing this makes his passing feel especially close to home, but it also reminds us of the connection we share with him, through the water, adventure, and community.

Henry will be deeply missed, but his spirit of creativity, courage, and play will live on in all who knew him.

Rest peacefully, Henry.
